Every once in a while a former student shares something with me that makes me smile or smirk.
“Its the thing that makes the path to our goals hard. Adversity makes us want to give up our dreams. It’s there to knock us down, to break us. These days, adversity is something we shun. Fear of failure paralyzes our society into a faux culture of achievers, because we never choose to do something we might not succeed in. Yes, comfort is nice, in the same way that a Honda Civic is a practical purchase. But it’s time we take an honest look at ourselves, and decide if thats the type of victories we want to rest our laurels on. We need to embrace adversity. After all, that cute girl across the room might not walk over to you. So what if she doesn’t happen to be into your cross-eyed grin. When knocked down, it allows you the opportunity to get back up. It makes you tough, forces you to figure out a new way to solve the problem. George Patton once said, “Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory”. When was the last time you felt theexhilaration of victory? Matter of fact, when was the last time you accepted the challenges? Fellow Americans, it’s time we overlook the critical thinking skills that chooses the safer option, the Honda Civic. I think it’s high time we felt the exhilaration of victory.”
